Community Service in Worcester, Health in Worcester, Financial Services in Worcester, Health Services in Worcester

Created by and for the people of Greater Worcester, our Foundation strengthens our community now and for future generations.

The Greater Worcester Community Foundation is run by and for the community. Our staff and volunteer leadership live and work in Greater Worcester and understand its organizations, opportunities and needs. Our board of directors, corporators and committee members are all volunteers and serve without compensation. Each is a community leader with a depth of private or public sector experience. We are fortunate to benefit from their expertise and talent. The 21 board members who provide the governance of the Foundation are elected annually by our corporators and serve four-year renewable terms. Our dedicated professional staff runs our operations and provides a breadth of services to our diverse constituents, including donors as well as our partners, including our region’s nonprofit organizations. Committed to community-building processes, our staff leads volunteers in evaluating grant proposals and reviewing the impacts of grants. They help donors meet their philanthropic goals, advise nonprofits on developing capacity and guide collaborations of all kinds. Corporators are chosen for their involvement in community philanthropy and nonprofit leadership. Corporators serve without compensation, serving as active volunteers or committee members to further the mission of the Foundation. This Fall, our Nonprofit Support Center is offering a wide variety of training and educational programs which provide our area nonprofits with the tools and support to build their operational expertise. It is that wonderful time of year as we open the annual Fall Community Grants Program and begin the process of our largest cycle of grant review. For many families in Central MA, summer activities can be costly. The good news is several Worcester non-profits offer plenty of free summer options to entertain and even educate children while giving parents' relief from their wallets. Summer has arrived, and here at the Foundation, we are continuing our engagement with summer learning. The Foundation’s scholarship program enables college-bound high school seniors to be considered for multiple opportunities through a single online application. The message was clear to everyone at this year’s Annual Meeting: In order to grow our community here in Central Massachusetts, we must work together to build relationships, promote teamwork, and make an impact. The Annual Meeting is a special gathering and a chance to highlight community progress, in the past year and over the longer term. We share the sentiment of our partners and friends at the Worcester County Food Bank (WCFB) that food is a matter of societal justice. To really understand the work of a nonprofit organization, nothing compares to a face-to-face visit, which is why we offer our Outreach & Education Site Visitors Program. Our mission here at GWCF is to enhance the community, now and in the future, through philanthropic leadership. That inspiring generosity, wisely stewarding resources entrusted to us, and effective grant making.
